We’re back and we’re exhausted!  Sunday was a killer - temps at 100 degrees!

Here’s a picture of our booth - that’s Jan, Kathryn, and Susan:

We had a ball - great friends, great food, and fiber-fiber everywhere.  Susan and I made a trip to the Wool Show & Sale with the checkbook.  Picked up two absolutely fantastic Targhee fleeces.  More later……my brain is still fairly well fried.

NwRSA Conference Update

Susan and I spent the past weekend “bunking” in a jail cell (oops!  I mean dorm room) and a rather austere dorm room at that!  We were vending at the NwRSA Conference - a new venue for us.  We had a wonderful time!!

Here’s a quick rundown!  We got off to a slow start: I had worked 17 hrs the day before (isn’t that illegal?) and the hay delivery to Susan’s house was late.  We managed to get on the road and water-skiied our way up to Tacoma.  Yep, the rain was coming down so hard that the road conditions were absolutely horrible.  We observed several people practicing their hydroplaning skills.  Scary, very scary.  We drive past the exit labelled “University of Puget Sound”, instead choosing to follow the directions inside our conference booklet.  We were crossing our fingers. The last entry in the booklet directions were to come into “old town” or something like that, go through the single traffic light and up the hill.  That was it.  So up the hill we went, looking for a sign.  When we went past the upper-most cross street on the little map, I knew we blew it.  So we zig-zagged our way back, using the little map and finally got to the college and located the gym.  Totally crappy directions and we found out that numerous people did the same thing.

We then got to unload in the rain.  Sigh….why is it that it always rains when we do these things?  It doesn’t matter as everyone else was stuck doing the same and we all shared a similar “rain head” hairstyle.  Ugh.  By this time I’m frazzled and silly-tired.  They announce that it’s dinner time.  We heave a big sigh of relief and watch most everyone leave the gym.  Goodie!  We can go through the drill of setting up our booth in privacy and peace.  We’ve set booths up before, but this was a new set-up for us and thank goodness for the dinner bell.  I’m quite certain we’d have been the evening entertainment had that bell not sounded.

We have the booth set up by the time dinner is over.  We fall back into our chairs, feeling happy that we survived the day.  We were not prepared for the rush that ensued.  Now a vendor should be quite happy when a rush of folks hit their booth.  We were pleasantly surprised at our evening sales.  It can be a little scary  vending fiber that you’ve worked long and hard over.  Especially if you’ve done the dyeing yourself.  Will people laugh and make fun of it?  Will they buy it?  Gads!  It’s like hanging your heart out in the wind for awhile - very personal and a little scary.

More on the conference in my next post…I had meant to get this up sooner this week, but life (and work!) got in the way!!    Jessica did a great job of describing her weekend at conference….right down to the goat-berry dessert!  Yikes!  More tomorrow!
