I’ve finally gotten the loom almost completely warped - just need to tie on the front beam!

I’m no longer dreaming (besides - snow is my enemy, remember?). A rare western Washington State white Christmas…

All the holiday shopping has been done for a week! What with 5 family members (6 if you include me) with December birthdays - one must be strategic and organized. The holiday baking is complete! Got Spanky, one of our Pygora wethers to the vet and back home in a horrible rainstorm (Spanky was unfazed and loved all the attention he received). Now as long as work doesn’t call….(gotta love those on-call weekends…..NOT).
Ah…..sitting down near the fire in the woodstove, full tummy from a wonderful dinner (cedar-planked BBQ salmon), and a nice cup of hot cocoa (I don’t know why I’ve been on such a cocoa kick lately….) - I reach for my knitting bag and begin the Celtic Tote bag in the latest Interweave Knits magazine. Ah…..a little slice of heaven……until dear husband looks over from his easy chair and asks in a rather loud voice, “Hey! That’s not my scarf!! You promised me my scarf!! You can’t start that thing until you finish MY scarf!!”. Holy crap - I’ve created a monster…..so I’ve gotta go finish his scarf! (This is rather funny because I really didn’t think he was interested in the latest scarf I’m working on - apparently he is - or maybe it was that chilly spell at the vet’s yesterday….

This is the worst news possible - and for once I can say a big “thank you” to the media - for without the news broadcast on tv last night and a big spread in the local newspaper, I would not have known about this!

I know both Ms. Calhoun and the McRae’s. The McRae’s live about 2 miles from me as the crow flies. Great. I think it’s a crying shame that dogs need to be shot at because their owners are incredibly stupid and irresponsible. I’m thankful for the electric fencing I have, and the fact that the pasture is so close to our house. We did remove the .22 rifle from the gunsafe - and it’s ready if I need it. Not trying to be melodramatic -and the last thing I want to do is shoot a dog - let’s just pray nothing comes of it and with all the publicity the owners will catch a clue. I’m a very good shot with that .22 - and am very unhappy with all of this right now. As Susan can attest - a dog attack on a goat herd is heartbreaking - and such a sense-less waste.
Cross your fingers for us with livestock that live ‘out in the valley’.

We survived that incredible storm without any damage, really. It is just awful what happened to those around us (Columbia County (where Susan lives) and Lewis & Grays Harbor county, WA - the two counties north of us). The wind blew “Mr. Zappy” over - the electric zapper box for the electric fence, it pushed our flatbed aluminum trailer (hay wagon) up against the shop, and wiped out a garden trellis that I never cared much for (ugh - I need to clean that weedy mess up!).

Ok, so we live in the Pacific Northwet - yeah, no mispelling there! The Longview/Kelso area received over 5″ of rain in the past 24 hrs. What a mess! We are very thankful that we’ve not experienced any damage due to the huge downpour and high winds. Neither of us slept last night - horrible thoughts of the goat barn roof flying off did it to me. Yikes! Good thing we aren’t planning on going anywhere! I5 is closed up by Centralia and Amtrak is down due to mud slides. We are now worried about the country road bridge at the bottom of the hill - it didn’t look so good on my way home tonight……I hope everyone else made it through this mess in one piece….
I had a present waiting for me yesterday! Woo-hoo!! I won a contest on Marcia’s blog! I read Marcia’s blog because she has a great sense of humor, and we share similar interests. Marcia was in a quandry this year about Rhinebeck. I’ve never been to Rhinebeck, but lately I’ve struggled with some decisions in my personal life (nothing major, just is frustrating to be indecisive). She had a contest and the winner would be whomever helped make her decision. I told her to listen to her heart (pretty heavy, huh?). I find if you listen to your heart, your decision will be one you can live with. So she listened - and did not go to Rhinebeck! So she sent me this! There’s a couple of really great Post-It Notes for knitting, a very pretty shawl pin (Thanks Shelley in McCall!), a great notebook, yummy tea, and a nice cd made by her d-i-l (which I am enjoying very much, btw!).
