Black Sheep Gathering 2008

We survived another BSG!  This festival is always a busy one for us and this year was no exception.   We arrived in Eugene after our 3hr drive and unloaded the truck, wheeling everything into the building to set up the booth.  The nice thing about BSG is we have the same booth each year and so booth assembly is made more simple.  It was warm and so by the time the booth and merchandise were properly set up, we were both in need of a shower and maybe a margarita!

Friday was busy and miserably hot and humid.  I met many spinners while playing Black Sheep Bingo (started by a couple of Ravelry gals: TheBon and Violinjodie).  It was nice to put faces with names and avatars!  I got to meet Marnie MacLean in person (in our booth!).  What a nice gal and fabulous knit designer.  She was shopping with her mom and they both looked to be having a great time.  I also got the chance to meet Lori Lawson (one of the twisted sisters).  She does the most beautiful color work (both in dyeing fiber and yarn as well as in her knitting designs).  She’s also a very talented spinner - I just cannot wait to see what she does with our natural-colored Pygora roving!!  I purchased some of her hand-dyed wool/bamboo roving and am eager to spin it.

Saturday was cooler (whew!) and continued to be busy.  I love getting a chance to see spinner friends that I don’t get to see very often.  It’s like a big reunion weekend.  My purchases?  the Capistrano Fiber Arts roving from Lori, a new spinning wheel bag from the Bag Lady (my Lendrum needs a little padding while traveling!), and a great weaving book (for 4 shaft looms - a pattern book, something I’ve been looking for!).  I purchased a drop spindle from Steve and Connie Paulson for my spinning friend, Stormy, so I could have mine back!  Stormy ties bobbin lace and wants to spin her own silk - yikes!  You should see what she’s accomplished so far (on MY spindlewood spindle!!).

Ok - that wraps up the BSG report!  Our many thanks to all who stopped by to visit and shop.  We had a great time and will be back again next year!

Off to Black Sheep Gathering!

Susan and I are headed south this weekend to Eugene to the annual Black Sheep Gathering!  We love this festival: great friends, wonderful venue and a nice girl’s weekend.  Here’s a couple of shots of our booth at Salem the past weekend at the NwRSA Conference:

See how the Pygora yarn just glows?

I just love the aprons we had made - great for working in the studio or whatever!  Susan’s neighbor, Eileen, graciously sewed them for us (I can sew - but ahem, I have a time problem…..).  She also sews bags - you can see them on the left.

I’m knitting along on my swallowtail shawl out of our Pygora/Merino laceweight yarn - I hope to be done by next year (semi serious!)

This year I’m participating in Black Sheep Bingo!  A couple of gals on Ravelry started this (supposed to be similar to Rhinebeck bingo…).  I’m a square - so come visit us in our booth (I’ll be wearing my Bingo Badge!).  Here’s our contribution to the Bingo prizes…some Rainbow Roving!

Well, the goats are out in the pasture having their dinner…..

Guess I’ll go have mine!!  (bbq cedar planked salmon!) drool!!

A few weeks ago I taught a few knitting buddies how to spin using a cd drop spindle and some basic roving.  It was a fun time (well, more for me perhaps?).

One of my knitting buddies, Sara, really really wanted to learn how to
spin.  She enjoyed the cd spindle session so much that within a week
she’d purchased a used wheel!  Sara has two young daughters who were
just as intrigued with making yarn - so Sara shared her new skills with
her girls -

I especially LOVE this photo - they say a picture is worth a thousand words.  I think this one says it all….

Susan and I are off to the Black Sheep Gathering in Eugene this coming weekend.  I can’t wait!!  We love this venue and it’s great fun to visit all our fiber friends!  Oh, and we’re actually playing Black Sheep Bingo this year - I’m a square!  Details on the BSG group at http://www.ravelry.com

Quick Update

We’ve been very busy!  And we are headed down the road to Salem this afternoon for a spinner’s weekend at NwRSA Conference!!  It will be great fun to see many friends and hopefully make a few new ones.

On the farm front: I’m very pleased to announce that my little goat building is now officially a barn - we’ve got two new residents…

Aren’t they cute?  It’s difficult to feed the goats without disturbing them.  But after awhile in a goat barn with pushing and shoving that occurs, I’m hoping they get used to all the commotion!

On the fiber front: I’ve started the Swallowtail Shawl with our Pygora/Merino laceweight yarn.  I’m really enjoying this pattern - so far, so good.  I am using a lifeline (notice the pink ribbon near the top) - I hate frogging lace!

Our house is still for sale…..sigh…..although I made a move this week that should ensure that it sells very soon - I had my year’s supply of hay for the goats delivered  the other day.  Where’s Murphy’s Law when you really need it???
