Calgon! Take Us Away!!!!!

It’s been a rough month, weather-wise.  This makes the care of fiber animals quite difficult.  Ok, I only fell ONCE while packing the 5 gal water bucket in about 31″ of snow.  I am a klutz - but we all know this…..!

I’m wanting to work on a special project for Rainbow Yarns NW for this coming festival year.  But first we must clean up the mess…..First the chicken coop received damage from a couple of large maple tree limbs….(the chickens are ok!)

And our beautiful driveway hedge had to have a haircut.  A major one.  I was out twice a day with my broom (quit laughing!) trying to keep the snow off the hedge.  Tis a losing battle when 12″ falls overnight.  The damage is done before I woke up.

And once the snow began to melt - the lower valley began to flood.  It was creepy how much water was running down our hill!
Our sleepy little Goble Creek turned into a big muddy mess - but our little bridge survived!

I wanted to get photos when the creek was its highest - but I was at work and by the time I got home - it was dark.  The creek ran over that bridge!

So after all this excitement - I am ready for a break!!!!

Yep - you guessed it!  It’s that time again…….

It’s time for our annual Wild Goat Women Winter Weekend!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Just…Can’t….Wait!

Our Beach Cottage!!! Well, ok, it’s only ours once a year - but it’s worth it!!

Wild Pygora Goat Women!!! (minus the other Lisa and Kathryn!)

In my barn, that is!  This isn’t supposed to be a weather blog - but with the weather we’ve had so far this winter, its impact is hard to ignore.

Hello from flooded Kelso!  We are fine, hill dwellers that we are.  The goat barn is not so fine.  Very wet and squooshy tonight.  Crap.  Spent two hours after working all day (and a workout at the gym - who knew I could’ve skipped it and still came out ahead calorie-wise??) digging out the goat barn and rerouting the river running across the pasture.

Ran out of straw bales - really thought long and hard about placing $$good hay$$ on the barn floor.  Then found plywood in two nice sized pieces and one big old hay bale that I had planned on using for bedding.  Managed to provide dry floor in barn for goats, knowing full well I will need to make better repairs tomorrow.

I shouldn’t whine - there are so many folks flooded out of their homes right now that it is shocking.  I have two routes to town, both involve crossing small, country road bridges.  One is failing as I type this.  Let’s hope the other hangs on so we aren’t isolated from town.  My husband has graciously offered to dig out/ clean up the barn for me (Susan please don’t hit me!!).  He’s never done that before and even though the barn is small in size, the stuff on the floor is large in weight.  Ugh.  If it gets much worse, I’ll be staying home, digging in the muck alongside him.

And if it continues to rain, we get to do this WITH the goats IN the barn.  Sigh…….

Stay dry and safe everyone!!
